What makes beer snacks better? Adding beer to your beer snacks! Our mates at Smoking Coals Barbecue have been testing out some tasty recipes with our core range, and because they're nice folks, they've shared their recipes so you can try them out too!
*This recipe makes 2 giant pretzels*
Ingredients
1 teaspoon of dried yeast
1⁄4 teaspoon sugar
150 ml Wayward Pilsner
1 1⁄2 cups bread flour
1⁄4 teaspoon salt
30g butter, melted
1 egg yolk lightly beaten Course sea salt (kosher salt)
Method
Put yeast, sugar and warm beer in a small bowl and stir well
Leave in a warm place for yeast to activate
Put flour and salt in a large bowl and make a well in the centre
Add the yeast mixture and the butter and mix into a rough dough
Turn out onto a floured surface and knead for 10 minutes until a soft and elastic
Place into an oiled bowl, oil the surface of the dough and cover with cling wrap or a clean tea towel and set aside in a warm place for an hour, or until roughly doubled in size
Preheat oven to 190 ̇c. Line a large baking tray with baking paper
Punch down the dough and knead again for 2-3 Minutes
Divide dough into two even balls
Roll each piece into a rope roughly 40 cm long
Circle and knot into a pretzel shape and place on tray
Cover with a tea towel and place in a warm, draught free place for 20-30 mins (if you don’t have a warm, draught free area, place in oven on 30 ̇c covered with tea towel)
After dough has risen again brush pretzels with beaten egg yolk and sprinkle with salt
Place in oven for 15 mins or until golden brown
Serve with melted butter and wash it down with another Wayward Pilsner.
